The composition of micas from Degana granite show significant chemical variation and trioctahedral nature. High Al2O3, and FeO content and a very distinctive depletion in MgO characterize the biotite whereas zinnwaldite has comparatively lower FeO and MgO. The biotites plot in the field of lithian-siderophyllite. The trioctahedral micas show high positive correlation between Si and Li and between Fe and Aliv. and negative correlation between Si and Aliv and Si and (Fe2+), suggesting that the coupled substitution Livi+Siiv=(Fe2+"+Aliv was operative during their evolution. The analysis of the micas show chemical continuity, suggcsting their continuous evolution from biotite to zinnwaldite composition. Late to post magmatic process for formation of zinnwaldite is favoured.Keywords

Perthites are important disequilibrium textures found in the topaz bearing Degana Granites. Out of the two types of the perthites in the Degana Granite, the Fine-Grained stringlet type perthite is found in the unaltered portion while the dominant coarser type replacement perthite is present in the potassic alteration zones. In the present communication, a schematic model for the progressive evolution of perthite texture in the potassic alteration zone of the Degana Granite is proposed.Full Text

The Mesoproterozoic A-type granites from Chapoli–Chowkri area, South Khetri Belt (SKB) of Aravalli craton are characterized by high content of thorium and uranium with variable Th/U ratio. Average radiogenic heat production of Udaipurwati granite, Chapoli granite and albitite are 6.67 mWm–3, 6.90 mWm–3 and 6.92 mWm–3 respectively, which are much higher than the average RHP values for continental crust and the granites of North Khetri Belt (NKB). Average contribution of RHP due to thorium (56.86%) is higher than uranium (40.84%) and potassium (2.28%). Based on the heat production and their geochemical behaviour, these granites from South Khetri Belt are classified as moderate to high heat producing granites. Study on heat flow suggested that the high levels of radiogenic heat production in the uppermost crust could be the reason for high heat flow in the areaKeywords
